新明解
ゴールデンウィーク。天気がいい。当然のことながら、みんな休みのようで、その中でも仕事のTは電車に座れると言って、喜んでいるのか、つまらないのか定かではない。
Tの作ったキノコシチューを食べる。あまりに多く作りすぎてしまったので（12皿分くらい）、Tはあまり食べないし、ぼくが大食漢のように食べる。まあ、味はおいしい。
ここ何年かゴールデンウィークはぼくにとってとてもいやな日々だ。
いや、ぼくはもっとほかのことを書こうとしていたのだけれど。なんだっけな。
考える。考えるということは独り言にちがいないのだけれど、ずっと独り言を続けていると、ぼくは自分の頭がおかしいのではないのかという恐怖に駆られる。そうして独り言をやめる。空虚な頭というのはなんと居心地がいいのか。
そういえば、Oさんと話していて、『新明解国語辞典』のことが話題に上った。「めちゃくちゃ主観」で書かれているとのことだった。新明解のことは以前にも書いた。
間違いやすい言葉
ほかの用件で、三省堂のサイトを見ると、「あの国民的国語辞典が７年ぶりに大改訂」とある。とりあえず、bk1で注文してみた。知らないうちに第6版になっていた。
大学に入る頃、ぼくは新明解と岩波の国語辞典を使っていた。特に意識することもなく、辞典が必要なときはどちらか手元に近い方を使うという感じだった。ところが、シェークスピアの研究で有名なある教授の授業で、教授は教室に入って来るなり赤い辞典を高々と頭上にあげ、みなさん、新明解の新しい版が出ましたよ、もう買いましたか、と言うなり、「恋愛」の項目をまるで役者のように読み上げはじめた。
「恋愛 特定の異性に特別の感情を抱き、高揚した気分で、二人だけで一緒にいたい、精神的な一体感を分かち合いたい、出来るなら肉体的な一体感も得たいと願いながら、常にはかなえられないで、やるせない思いに駆られたり、まれにかなえられて歓喜したりする状態に身を置くこと。」
肉体的な一体感ですよ、わかりますか？、分かる人も分からない人もいると思いますが、にくたいてきないったいかんですよ！、常にはかなえられないで、やるせない、やるせないですよ。これは詩ですよ、とはしゃいで、次は岩波の恋愛の項を読む。つまらないですね。これはまあ国定辞典みたいなものです。
ぼくは詩的な定義に満ちた辞典という言葉に魅了されそれ以来すっかり『新明解』を使うようになった。
あれから７年。またもや新明解は改訂され、教授はさぞやはしゃいでいるだろうと思ったが、おそらく退官しているだろう。芝居が大好きで、観劇してくると、授業でそのまねをする。ぼくは単位に関係なく、毎年授業に出ていた。たまにだけど。
で、恋愛の項を見ると、これが改訂されていた。
「恋愛 特定の異性に対して他の全てを犠牲にしても悔い無いと思い込むような愛情をいだき、常に相手のことを思っては、二人だけでいたい、二人だけの世界を分かち合いたいと願い、それがかなえられたと言っては喜び、ちょっとでも疑念が生じれば不安になると言った状態に身を置くこと。」
肉体的な一体感は削除されたが、これもまた詩的。しかし、どうしてこのように改訂する必要があったのかは知りたい。
